Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'A Defense of the Devil: The World, the Flesh and Satan Coming Into Their Own' is a provocative philosophical exploration that challenges traditional moral hierarchies and religious orthodoxies. Written during a period of intense intellectual inquiry, the work examines the historical and cultural perceptions of evil, human desire, and the material world. By reframing the concept of the 'Devil' not as a literal entity of malice but as a symbol of human nature and worldly experience, the text invites readers to reconsider the foundations of ethical conduct and social conventions.

Manuscript / Paper Collectible Signed
See Roy's entry in the Oxford DNB. He part-wrote and performed the perennially popular 'My Girl's Pussy', with other songs with suggestive titles. The two men's careers both began in the 1920s, and Daniels played in the band of Roy's brother Sid Roy. The two signatures laid down on an 8.5 x 7 piece cut from the leaf from an autograph album. Somewhat discoloured, otherwise in good condition. ONE: Signature of 'Harry Roy'. On 6 x 4.5 cm slip of paper. Large signature, with the downstrokes of the final letter y's extending unusually far. TWO: Signature of 'Joe Daniels'. On 8 x 2 cm slip of paper. Contains typed valediction of letter: 'Yours truly, / One of the Drumming Fraternity. / [signed] Joe Daniels'. The slip with Daniels' signature has been laid down over the bottom 0.25 cm of the slip with Roy's, covering the bottom of the 2cm downstrokes of his letter y's, but not in an obtrusive way.

Condition: Fine. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original burgundy cloth covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spine. 8vo. 9½'' x 6''. Contains 225 pp with monochrome photograph of Yukio Mishima who is considered one of the most important Japanese authors of the 20th century. He was considered for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968, but the award went to his countryman and benefactor Yasunari Kawabata. Although Mishima's main literary ambition was to write philosophical novels in the tradition of Goethe and Thomas Mann, Deadly Dialectics is the first critical study to take this objective seriously: it also provides the first adequate account of Mishima's intellectual background and characteristic modes of thought and it is the first book to show the intimate and integral relation between his thought and his psychology and militant politics - or, more specifically, between his nihilism, his sexuality and his propensity to violence. On November 25, 1970, Mishima and four members of his militia entered a military base in central Tokyo, took its commandant hostage, and tried to inspire the Japan Self-Defense Forces to rise up and overthrow Japan's 1947 Constitution, which he called 'a constitution of defeat'. When his attempt failed, he committed seppuku (suicide). Fine condition book in Fine condition dust wrapper, unused and unopened new book. We carry this book in stock for immediate dispatch.
