Softcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) was een wereldberoemdheid in zijn dagen. In de zeventiende eeuw werd een brief geadresseerd aan 'Leeuwenhoek in Europa' correct bezorgd. Filosofen en kunstenaars, wetenschapppers en vorsten, allen correspondeerden met hem of bezochten zijn laboratorium. Zelfs tegenwoordig nog heeft hij nauwelijks aan populariteit ingeboet: bij de verkiezing van de Grootste Nederlander belandde Van Leeuwenhoek bij de top tien. Toch weten we niet veel meer van hem dan dat hij iets had met microscopen en kleine slootdiertjes. En dat een belangrijk ziekenhuis naar hem vernoemd is.
