Auf Empfehlung Melanchthons wurde er 1544 ordentlicher Professor an der Universität Greifswald, wo er seine Erfahrungen in Geschichte, Poesie und Mathematik weitergab. Dies stieß in Greifswald auf so viel Anerkennung, dass er 1546 zum Rektor der Universität gewählt wurde. Das hier vorliegende Buch ist Friedrich II. von Dänemark gewidmet. Gewicht in Gramm: 3000.

Das bedeutendste Quellenwerk für die deutsche Reformationsgeschichte (KLL). - Durch vielfältige diplomatische Missionen, durch seine offizielle Stellung als Historiograph des Schmalkaldischen Bundes und durch seine ausgebreitete Korrespondenz besaß Sleidanus eine für seine Zeit einzigartige Quellenkenntnis. Die gelehrte Geschich…tsschreibung wurde erst von ihm unabhängig, als sich im 19. Jh. die Archive öffneten und die Akten, die man bisher in den Exzerpten Sleidans hatte benützen müssen, im Original zugänglich wurden (Fueter 203). Das Werk erschien zuerst 1555 in 25 Büchern. Buch 26 mit der Fortsetzung bis zum Tode Sleidans (31. Okt. 1556) und die Apologie wurden erstmals der Ausgabe 1558 hinzugefügt. - [.] Nach einer gescheiterten Mission nach Deutschland blieb Sleidanus 1544 in Straßburg und wurde durch die Vermittlung Martin Bucers 1545 zum offiziellen Geschichtsschreiber des Schmalkaldischen Bundes bestellt. Innerhalb eines Jahrzehnts schrieb Sleidanus die aktenmäßige Geschichte der Regierungszeit Karls V. De statu religionis et reipublicae Carolo V. Heading on text page tops reads sometimes "Der Auszerlesnen Chronicl" and sometimes "Der Auserlesenen Chronicl". 4to. Very fancy capital letters. Paginated (38) , i-dcccvii (1-807) but lacks leaf 800…/801 and appears to lack one or more final pages. 29.5 x 19 cm. Binding very secure (except for final 3 leaves which are detached, worn and wrinkled) however front wood board and spine are completely gone. Rear board still attached but very worn and lacks original vellum covering. Remnants of leather ties remain . Text is not very worn, just occasional light soiling/spotting; just 3 or 4 very old tiny ink margin notes. Rare. Pictures available on request.
