On the verso of the half-title is a note in Janvier de Flainville's hand, signed with his intricate monogram. Large 8vo. Contemporary calf, spine elaborately gilt in six compartments. All edges red. Binding somewhat worn but still solid and attractive. Internally FINE AND BRIGHT. Rare.

Document contresigné avec note par Morand (non identifié) avec un cachet de cire armorié. Une note au dos indique « Philippe Gallice de St Maurice ». Beau document. [420].

The first is written in the blank at the base of a certificate signed by Tournin, Brigadier of the Armées, Chevalier de l'ordre de St. Louis and Lieutenant Général. It concerns the document it follows. The second piece is a certificate of conge and confirmation of military service. Charost later became Brigadier of the Armées. Paper.
