La publicación de Humanismo y anarquismo aspira, además,… a dar a conocer a los lectores de hoy lo mejor y más vivo de un pensamiento anarquista que rompe moldes y encajonamientos. Por su crítica temprana de la desvirtuación de la revolución en Rusia, por su defensa argumentada del federalismo y por sus iluminaciones sobre la guerra civil española, Humanismo y anarquismo es una obra que puede ser considerada como testimonio ejemplar de compromiso moral y político, como exponente de un anarquismo crítico, renovador y antidogmático, como pensamiento abierto al diálogo con otras tradiciones de liberación en una época en que hombres y mujeres daban lo mejor de sí por cambiar el mundo. Camillo Berneri (Lodi, 1897-Barcelona, 1937) ha sido uno de los más interesantes y originales pensadores y anarquistas del siglo XX. Licenciado en Filosofía y Letras por la Universidad de Florencia, se formó allí con Gaetano Salvemini. Fue uno de los precursores del antimilitarismo durante la I Guerra Mundial. Enseñó filosofía en diferentes institutos italianos entre 1923 y 1926. En la Italia mussoliniana fue un antifascista de la primera hora. Atravesó Europa, de Florencia a San Petersburgo y de San Petersburgo a Barcelona, poniendo su pluma y su palabra al servicio de la voluntad revolucionaria popular. Colaboró en varias revistas literarias de la época: Volontá, Umanità, Lotta umana. Dialogó con algunos de los más notables exponentes del pensamiento crítico de su época: con el liberal Gobetti, con el socialista Roselli, con el comunista Gramsci, con la anarquista Federica Monseny. En ese diálogo siempre destacó por la lucidez y la libertad con que expuso su punto de vista.
