"A 1974 graduate of the University of Rhode Island (where he is now employed in scientific photography), John G. Bent has had a continuing love for the sea and sailing ships since early boyhood, when he sailed on Chesapeake Bay. More recently acquired interests include scuba diving and flying a light plane. Accompanied by his wife Sharon (who is responsible for the adjoining photograph), he met and photographed the Sail Training Association racers at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, visited aboard many of the ships, and sailed on the CHRISTIAN RADICH for the cruise in company to Los Christianos. After returning to the United States he again met the Tall SHips in Bermuda; and when the race ended off Newport, Rhode Island, he was berthed aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter HAMILTON at the finish line. This photographic essay is the first collection of Mr. Bent's photographs to be published, and serves as a fitting introduction to the work of a promising young photographer. The photographs from the air (as well as one night picture in Newport harbor) are by Mr. Bent's talented associate, Roger E. Watson." - from the photographic pamphlet. Signed by Author(s).
