Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. ROUGH INFANTRY - Tales of World War II - Cam Bennett - 2/5th Australian Infantry Battalion - 1st Edition 1985 An excellent Australian WWII unit memoir and increasingly difficult title to find, Rough Infantry: Tales of World War II was written by Cam Bennett, a veteran of the 2/5th Australian Infantry Battalion, 2nd AIF. Published by Warrnambool Institute Press in 1985, this is the First Edition hardcover, complete with its original striking red pictorial dust jacket. ISBN 0949759058, 206 pages, illustrated with photographs and seven maps. Bennett joined the 2/5th Battalion in November 1939 as a private and wrote from the perspective of a man who actually served with the unit. The book follows the personalities, hardships, humour and fighting experiences of the battalion throughout the Second World War. The 2/5th served through some of the Australian Army's most important campaigns, and Bennett's account is particularly significant for its treatment of the fighting in New Guinea and the Wau-Salamaua campaign. The Australian Army Research Centre describes Rough Infantry as one of the relatively few memoirs of the Salamaua campaign, and Bennett's recollections are also used by the Australian Government's Anzac Portal. This particular copy has additional Australian military provenance: it bears the library stamp and markings of the Victorian Branch Library, ANZAC House, visible in the photographs. The book remains in solid condition with its original dust jacket. There is wear and chipping to the jacket, particularly around the spine, together with former library labels, stamps and markings. These have been left intact as part of the book's history. Please examine photographs carefully as they form part of the description. A desirable Australian WWII memoir and 2nd AIF reference, particularly suitable for collectors of Australian battalion histories, 6th Division, New Guinea campaign material and veteran-written military histories.…
