Duprat, Paris, 1839, 112 pp., pp. 129-134, 6 pp., avec deux planches lithographiées dont une dépliante L'exemplaire de la "Fondation d'une Colonie Agricole de Jeunes Détenus à Mettray" est remarquable en plusieurs points. Il se distingue des versions habituellement rencontrées en ce que la page de titre indique "Librairie de B. Duprat" et ne porte pas au-dessous la mention "Libraire de la Société Asiatique de Londres" ; surtout, le contenu des appendices est différent des versions habituelles. On y observe un saut dans la pagination (on passe de la page 112 à la page 129) sans observer de manque dans les chapitres, dont le contenu diffère néanmoins partiellement (par exemple l'appendice III est noté ici II, le IV est noté III, le II est noté V) ; la liste des membres est complète (et non pas limitée au Conseil d'Administration), et elle est ici en pagination séparée, et l'on trouve in-fine 2 planches lithographiées dont une belle vue dépliante en perspective cavalière (à la place du plan habituel). Deux noms sont rajoutés à la plume dans la liste des "Membres fondateurs inscrits jusq'au 10 juin 1839" : Mme Elisabeth Fry et Jules Taschereau, député (deux autres annotations modifient la qualité de 2 membres : Vatry, pair de France, devient député, le Vicomte de Forestier n'est plus pair de France. La majorité de ces éléments font penser qu'il s'agit ici d'une version antérieure à la version habituelle de l'édition originale (peut-être une épreuve non corrigée). Gustave de Beaumont et Alexis de Tocqueville furent des soutiens dans la fondation de cette colonie agricole, le premier appendice est constitué par une lettre de Tocqueville à Demezt. Bon état (dos un peu frotté en mors, ex libris Bibliotheca Rod. Aug. d'Ornano). Langue: Français.

Bellissima legatura erotica firmata Luigi… Castiglioni in piena pelle rosa con sottili e minimali incisioni che chiaramente alludono ad una vulva titillata da una piuma di pavone realizzata con pelle incisa e sagomata a formare una piuma di pavone nelle tonalità del giallo, del verde e di due tipi di blu. Tale configurazione del piatto anteriore riprende la tavola numero 7, dove un satiro adolescenziale titilla da lungi una vulva con una piuma di pavone. All'interno del libro il legatore ha aggiunto il modello di piuma di pavone utilizzato per riprodurla magistralmente sul piatto anteriore. Alla sguardia in carta marmorizzata del primo piatto il legatore ha dipinto in nero una mascherina, ripresa dalla firma che l'illustratrice appone in ogni tavola. Esemplare conservato in elegantissima scatola in tela rosa e vinaccia con titoli su una costola, opera evidente del legatore. Luigi Castiglioni si è sempre più espresso, nella sua creatività artistica di legatore, come allievo della scuola francese, di cui ha carpito le complesse tecniche di legatoria artistica proprio dedicandosi a rilegature che si ispirano alla stagione più virtuosistica della legatura, quella della belle époque. La capacità di Castiglioni di competere in una sorta di imitatio in opponendo con l'apice realizzativo della legatoria artistica in Francia, non solo a livello estetico ma anche per quanto riguarda le tecniche di lavorazione, ne fanno uno dei maestri legatori più quotati nel mondo, soprattutto per i libri art déco e del fascinoso Schmied. Essendo l'atelier di Castiglioni nato nel 1999, la legatura è recente, ma essa, per le capacità creative e realizzative del maestro legatore e per la sua sensibilità al gusto déco, rivaleggia coi più splendidi esempi dell'epoca. Dedica autografa del poeta: à Monsieur H. V. / en hommage de respectueuse sympathie / P. B. Presente nel volume biglietto da visita di Pierre Bellanger , 7, rue de Messine, con su scritto, di pugno del poeta: avec les amitiés les meilleures; potrebbe trattarsi dell'indirizzo cui ritirare il libro, quindi presso lo stesso scrittore, che ne distribuiva la tiratura o parte di essa, dato che il libro fu sicuramente distribuito clandestinamente per il carattere osceno delle illustrazioni, anche se era abitudine tipicamente francese che lo scrittore omaggiasse il dedicato con un biglietto da visita (più sovente, a mio avviso, che ci fosse o l'uno o l'altro, dato che poi il biglietto reca una vera e propria dedica che risulta un doppione rispetto a quella vergata direttamente sul libro; altra possibile ipotesi è che il montaggio della presente copia sia stato ulteriormente arricchito con questo biglietto proveniente da altro esemplare o addirittura da opera diversa di Belleger). Dutel 2290*. Edizione clandestina impressa in 150 copie su papier vergé e non messa in commercio (n. 35). Questo libro presenta vari interrogativi di non facile soluzione perché la sua data di pubblicazione si intreccia con quella delle illustrazioni che iniziarono a circolare senza alcun testo di accompagnamento, sebbene in numero ridottissimo perché non si vendevano, a partire dal 1917, data presunta della loro apparizione. Questa prima tiratura fu impressa su carta Whatman, mentre una seconda tiratura fu approntata nel 1921 ed impressa su papier vélin d'Arches filigranato MBM (come il nostro), che servì ad illustrare un'opera erotica di Louis Perceau, Les délassements d'Eros, pubblicata nel 1925 sotto lo pseudonimo di Alexandra de Vérineau. Pertanto, se si accetta la data del 1930 per la pubblicazione del nostro volume, si tratterebbe di un secondo espediente editoriale, sempre ovviamente clandestino, per smerciare la seconda tiratura delle illustrazioni, che si calcola essere stata eseguita in 500 esemplari. Viceversa, se l'edizione avesse visto la luce nel 1923, sarebbe questo il primo tentativo. Resta misterioso il destino della prima tiratura perché essa è rarissima mentre sembra che il libro di Perceau utilizzi la seconda tiratura. Ogni tavola reca il sigillo dell'artista, che si firmava con una mascherina nera tipica del carnevale veneziano, emblema in cui ella trovava la rappresentazione del senso della propria vita, ritraendosi come en travesti per proteggere se stessa ed il marito dagli sguardi oltraggiosi del mondo borghese e per testimoniare la loro volontà metamorfica. Gerda Wegener (1885-1940) fu la moglie dell'artista Einer Wegener (1882-1931), una delle prime donne trans della storia, conosciuta sotto lo pseudonimo di Lili Elbe , che morì dopo aver tentato l'ennesimo intervento chirurgico per completare il suo cambiamento di sesso. L'arte della Wegener si espleta nella estrema dolcezza delle pose dei visi e dei corpi femminili, effigiati in una bellezza e pienezza dell'appagamento erotico che probabilmente rappresenta l'ideale dell'artista, un abbandono panico e totalmente empatico che però al contempo fustiga questa sensibilità allora troppo eversiva: uno stile che era perseguito anche da Brunelleschi, ma che la Wegener esprime in forma più piena nella sua consapevolezza femminile. Cfr. Dutel 2290, Pia 1123-1124. Raro e prezioso esemplare, soprattutto a causa della splendida legatura artistica.
