Die Seiten sind papierbedingt leicht nachgedunkelt, ansonsten ein sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar ohne Anstreichungen. / Professionally bound, library quality. The pages are slightly darkened due to the paper, but otherwise it is a very good and clean copy with no markings. -- (Publishing text:) TABLE OF CONTENTS -- FOREWORD -- INTRODUCTION -- TITE -- A LIST OF MAGNON'S WORKS -- BIBLIOGRAPHY -- INDEX -- FOREWORD: Magnon has just claims to attention, not only because he was called "le plus grand fou de France," which is sufficient title to fame, but because his works must be studied if we are to understand fully the dramatic contemporaries of Corneille, Racine and Molière. Despite his depreciation of his own plays, he produced some that have substantial qualities, and his associa- tion with the Illustre Théâtre in its difficult first days, as well as the probable influence of his Tite upon Corneille's Tite et Bérénice, entitles him to further consideration. My purpose is to present the main facts of Magnon's life and the assembled evidence to demonstrate the importance of Tite along with a critical edition of the play itself. Since Dr. H. Carrington Lancaster has already adequately discussed Magnon's other plays in his History of French Dramatic Literature in the Seventeenth Century, I shall alter my original plan and omit a lengthy study of them.
