Magistrate, parliamentarian and senior civil servant under the Restoration, Becquey was one of the key players in the creation of an inland navigation system designed to provide France with a complete network of waterway communications, the "Becquey Plan". His work as Director General of Ponts & Chaussées and Mines also focused on seaports, lighthouses and mines.
