Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed study of the life and works of Henri Laurent Rivià re, a French naval officer and writer. Born in Paris in 1827, Rivià re joined the French Navy at the age of 16. He served with distinction during the Franco-Prussian War, and was later appointed commander of the French naval forces in Tonkin. During his time in Tonkin, Rivià re played a key role in the Tonkin Campaign, which resulted in the establishment of a French protectorate over the region. He was killed in action in May 1883, at the age of 55. In addition to his military career, Rivià re was also a prolific writer. He published numerous novels, short stories, and plays, many of which were inspired by his experiences in the navy. His writing is known for its vivid descriptions of life at sea, its insights into the human condition, and its exploration of themes such as honor, duty, and sacrifice. The author of this book draws on a wide range of sources, including Rivià re's own writings, letters, and diaries, to provide a comprehensive and nuanced portrait of this complex and fascinating figure. The book also includes a detailed analysis of Rivià re's literary works, exploring their themes, style, and significance within the broader context of French literature. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of the French Navy, the Tonkin Campaign, or the life and work of Henri Laurent Rivià re.
