Contains eight sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 5" x 7" and 8" x 10", with typed captions and additional ephemera. Slight waviness thus near fine with near…fine photographs. A scrapbook documenting the 1929 National Small Sculpture Committee Soap Sculpture winners. The album includes information about the history of the Committee which held an annual event in New York which was said to be "an inspiring and stimulating event to all those connected to the arts." This specific collection of information and images is for Soap Sculptures and begins "soap sculpture is now in its sixth year as an important art and educational movement." Following the history portion is the entry blank from the 1929 exhibition with a list of the judges and the prizes that could be won. The scrapbook then features photos and captions of the art itself beginning with the first prize soap sculpture "Mermaid" by Bertha J. Hansen of Rutherford, N.J. A later section titled "Comments from the Press" which includes newspaper clippings describing the event. Also included is a small pamphlet about soap sculpture, typed messages from committee members, and a memo. An interesting archive pertaining to a little know niche of New York art in the 1920s.
