Gilt durch seine zahlreichen Schriften, die geprägt waren durch Sprachkraft und Phantasie als bedeutender Poet des frühen Barocks. Besuchte als Knabe das Jesuitengymnasium in Ingolstadt, trat 1662 dem Kloster Maria Brunn bei Wien bei. Er wurde damit in den Orden der Augustiner-Barfüßer aufgenommen. Hier nahm er den Namen Abraham a Sancta Clara an.
