Soft cover. Condition: As New. Allan Young; Jeff Scovil; Jack Brauer; Michael Bainbridge; Dan Behnke; William W. Besse; William Henry Jackson; Joe Budd; John Smolski (illustrator). 1st Edition. As new, great condition. The spectacular landscapes of the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado are graphic evidence of the violent geology that concentrated a wealth of minerals in the triangle loosely defined by the picturesque mining towns of Telluride, Silverton, and Ouray. An ancient hunting ground of indigenous peoples, these rugged high peaks concealed gold and silver discovered 150 years earlier by westerners. These discoveries spurred mining booms and engineering feats as man worked to penetrate the ore- and crystal-laden cliffs and peaks.

Softcover. Condition: As New (still in shrinkwrap). Quarto. Softcover. Brownish and gold and color illustrated wraps. 256 pp., 100 color, 100 bw plates. This catalog accompanies the first exhibition in more than 30 years of important 19th-century American artist Asher B. Durand [1796-1886], to be held at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the San Diego Museum of Art. Durand, who in 1825 founded the National Academy of Design, New York, and later became its president, is best known (along with Thomas Cole) for his oil paintings associated with the Hudson River School of landscape painting. Scholars of American art Ferber (VP & museum director, New-York Historical Soc.), Barbara Dayer Gallati, Kenneth T. Jackson, and Sarah B. Snook chronicle his long life and discuss his works in this catalog, which features some 100 of the artist's paintings, engravings, and drawings. Thoroughly researched and including lovely color illustrations, a chronology of the artist's life, and the primary documents of Durand's "Letters on Landscape Painting," this book is recommended for academic and museum libraries supporting courses or collections in American art. The magazine had 14 issues and was published from January 1968 to July 1971. From January, 1968, through July, 1971, Ginzburg published Avant Garde. While it could not be termed obscene, it was filled with creative imagery often caustically critical of American society and government, sexual themes, and (for the time) crude language.Avant Garde had a modest circulation but was extremely popular in certain circles, including New York's advertising and editorial art directors. Herbert F. Lubalin (1918-1981), a post-modern design guru, was Ginzburg's collaborator on his four best-known magazines, including Avant Garde, which gave birth to a well-known typeface of the same name. It was originally intended primarily for use in logos: the first version consisted solely of 26 capital letters. It was inspired by Ginzburg and his wife, designed by Lubalin, and realized by Lubalin's assistants and Tom Carnese, one of Lubalin's partners. It is characterized by geometrically perfect round strokes; short, straight lines; and an extremely large number of kerned ligatures. The International Typeface Corporation (ITC) (of which Lubalin was a founder) released a full version in 1970."--wikipedia ; G. Book.
