The son of an immigrant, Bachman was a brilliant student with a passion for natural history. After graduating from Williams College, he felt a call to the ministry and was ordained in 1813. Bachman served as pastor of three Lutheran churches in New York before accepting a call to Charleston, South Carolina, in 1815. There he spent the rest of his life as pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church. Bachman was a gifted preacher and a tireless worker. He was also a gifted naturalist and ornithologist. He wrote several books on natural history, including The Quadrupeds of North America, which was illustrated by John James Audubon. Bachman was a dedicated family man and a devoted friend. He was also a man of great faith and courage. He faced many challenges in his life, including the loss of his wife and several of his children. But he never lost his faith in God or his love for his fellow man. Bachman's life is a story of service and dedication. He was a man who made a difference in the world. His legacy continues to inspire people today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
