Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Wrought Iron and Its Decorative Use' is an authoritative exploration of the craftsmanship and aesthetic evolution of ironwork as a medium for both utility and beauty. Written by Maxwell Ayrton and Arnold Silcock, this work provides a comprehensive survey of the history of wrought iron, par…ticularly focusing on its integration into architecture and the decorative arts. The book delves into the technical mastery required to manipulate iron, tracing its development from early utilitarian forms to the highly ornate designs found in grand estates, churches, and public buildings. Through a detailed examination of styles and techniques, the authors highlight the artistic significance of gates, railings, and screens, showcasing how iron was used to define spaces and express architectural character across different historical periods. 'Wrought Iron and Its Decorative Use' serves as an invaluable resource for architects, designers, and historians, offering a deep appreciation for the blacksmith's skill and the enduring legacy of metal craftsmanship. By documenting the intricate details and structural possibilities of the material, this work remains a seminal reference for anyone interested in the intersection of traditional craft and decorative design. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The set of three vols of Gavin Maxwell's 'Ring of Bright Water' trilogy. All are first editions, first impressions. 'Ring' (pub 1960, 211pp), 'Rocks' (pub 1963, 186pp), 'Raven' (pub 1968, 211pp). All have some edge wear, chipping, short closed tears…and creasing to tops and bottoms of jackets and spine, corners rubbed and bruised, some slight spotting to page fore edges, 'Ring' has previous owner's name to second ffep, 'Rocks' and 'Ring' have no inscriptions, all are price clipped, all are internally clean tight and squareish, overall a vg+ set. Fifty years ago Gavin Maxwell (1914-69), a Scottish naturalist, traveller and author, went to live in an abandoned house on a shingle beach on the west coast of Scotland. A haven for wildlife, he named his home Camusfearna and settled there with the otters Mij, Edal and Teko. 'Ring of Bright Water' chronicles Gavin Maxwell's first ten years with the otters and touched the hearts of readers the world over, brilliantly evoking life with these playful animals in this natural paradise. Two further volumes followed bringing the story full circle telling of the difficult last years and the final abandonment of the settlement. Gavin Maxwell is widely credited with saving the otter as a species in the UK and their subsequent conservation and protection. Scarce in these first impressions. Three heavy hardbacks, extra postage will be required. Illustrations by the author, Peter Scott, Michael Ayrton, Robin McEwen, James Millar Watt et al (illustrator).
