Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book responds to an attack on the University of Oxford by analyzing the supposed faults of its Colleges where students live, work, and socialize. The author argues that the original critique was inaccurate, biased, and had a personal vendetta against an anonymous author of religious texts and an outspoken defender of the University. The original critique questioned the Colleges' teaching methods, and their emphasis on assigning closed or open Fellowships to graduates. Open Fellowships were awarded to the best candidates from the general pool of students, while closed Fellowships were reserved for graduates from a specific region or school. Within this discussion, the author provides an in-depth analysis of the examination process for awarding these Fellowships to the graduates. The author argues that in the Colleges where Fellowships were open, the examinations were more rigorous and offered a truer test of candidates' abilities. By contrast, in other Colleges, Fellowship examinations were seen as less rigorous and based on favoritism toward certain graduates or candidates who had engaged in shady dealings with electors. The author concludes that these attacks originate from a misunderstanding of the Colleges' true values and a deeply personal animosity toward the University's defenders. The author's purpose is to defend the University against what they perceive as unfair criticism and to showcase the value of Oxford's educational system. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
