Blanqui argumenta que la riqueza nace de la inteligencia y el trabajo, pero que la tierra y el capital, fundamentales para su…creación, han sido apropiados ilegítimamente por una minoría. Esto ha llevado a la explotación de la mayoría trabajadora, que se ve privada de los frutos de su esfuerzo en beneficio de los ociosos. Blanqui compara esta situación con la esclavitud, afirmando que, aunque la forma ha cambiado, la esencia de la servidumbre persiste en la dependencia del trabajador hacia el dueño de los medios de producción. El autor rechaza la idea de una supuesta solidaridad entre capitalistas y trabajadores, considerándola una falacia que oculta el "duelo a muerte" entre el ingreso del capitalista y el salario.
