Provenienz: Sammlung Heinric…h Stiebel, Lugt 1367. Vergleichsliteratur: Ausst. Katalog: Arkadien am Mittelrhein. Caspar und Georg Schneider. Mainz, Landesmuseum 1998, Nr. 138 mit Abb. Schüler von Johann Caspar Schneider (1753-1839), der auch sein Vorbild war. Seine Landschaften sind erkennbar von Schneiders Landschaftsstil geprägt, aber realistischer als die des Lehrers. Der Zeichner war ein Multitalent: Kunstdilettant, Kunstsammler, Komponist, Wiederentdecker der Lithionquellen in Assmannshausen und Erfinder der Chorographimetrie, einer Methode zur Bestimmung von Berghöhen und Entfernungen (vgl. op. cit.). Davon machte er in seinen Aquarellen und Lithographien praktgischen Gebrauch und verfaßte über diese Erfindung mehrere Schriften. Klein ist ein Vertreter der Mainzer Malerei der Goethezeit.
