As its title indicates, the book was designed as a practical clinical handbook - a condensed, accessible diagnostic and treatment guide intended to help practicing physicians and graduate medical students quickly identify and manage the range of dermatological conditions encountered in general practice. The book is illustrated with two hand-colored lithographed plates, credited to F. Moras of Philadelphia (the same lithographer responsible for the celebrated plates in Louis Duhring's Atlas of Skin Diseases), depicting the foundational morphological categories of skin lesions used in dermatological diagnosis: macules, papules, vesicles, blebs, pustules, tubercles, and tumors - essentially a visual glossary of the basic "building blocks" of skin disease that a student or general practitioner would need to master before attempting more complex diagnoses. The spine cloth shows notable wear at the head and tail, with fraying and some loss of the cloth's original surface at these extremities, though the binding remains attached and functional. The two colored plates are present and in lovely condition, protected by the original tissue guards, with soft, well-preserved coloring showing only the lightest, even age-toning; no tears, foxing, or fading is apparent on either plate. Internally, the text block is complete, and the handwritten prescription pages at the rear are clean, fully legible, and add genuine documentary interest rather than detracting from the book's condition.
