Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. This VG- book was published by Goldsmith in 1932; it is 7-5/8" x 4-7/8" with 119 numbered pages; there is no frontis or other illustrations in this book. This book is square and reasonably clean; the lower corners have tiny bumps as do the spine ends; only the heel of the spine has any binding damage and it is quite minor. The bottom edges have only slight wear; there are no edge dings. The spine looks funny--it has several creases at the head, but those do not weaken the book and are probably manufacturing errors. The upper corners, for about 3" both horizontally and vertically, have a darkened area from water--this is on both front and rear boards. There is no internal damage however--the end pages are free of water damage as are all text pages. Only the jacket and the boards were affected. The interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and paper damage of any sort. The paper is heavily toned but still flexible and not brittle; end pages have a good amount of toning. Both hinges are very strong and not damaged in any way. The VG- jacket has very light general soiling, wear along the front fold, tiny chips at each corner, and at the head and heel of the spine, as well as the aforementioned water stain. An adventure story involving a canoe trip, a storm, being marooned on an island with an abandoned castle, and a search for clues to a fortune in pearls.…

Hardcover. Condition: Good Plus to Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair To Good. This early 20th century, juvenile adventure story for boys features Ted Lucas and Bob Jordan, young reporters for the "Dixon Tribune." The pair are assigned to write a series of historical feature stories about early travel on the upper Mississippi River including the mysterious "sky castle" and its missing treasure. The boys decide on a canoe trip to get close to the river and its history, then find they have competition from another newspaper. A storm maroons them on an isolated island where they discover an ancient stone castle and their adventure really begins. First edition, no indication of number of printings. About 119 pages in blue-green cloth-covered boards with black border and lettering on front cover and black lettering on spine. Pictorial dustjacket showing two boys crouched outside a fence with a large building in distance. Title in while lettering, author in black. Dj's back panel has ads for five "Books for Boys" offered by Goldsmith. Boards' corners and spine ends lightly bumped, o/w only minimal surface and edge wear. Lightly age-toned text shows mild spine lean and text edges slightly soiled, o/w text is clean, complete and unmarked. Price-clipped dj shows considerable edge wear, including several large chips on lower edges and spine ends, though damage does not extend to dj's pictorial or graphic elements. A decent example of early 20th century juvenile fiction.…
