Nach Zwischenstationen in Leipzig, Boston und Buda…pest wurde er 1895 sowohl zum Gewandhauskapellmeister in Leipzig als auch zum Chefdirigenten der Berliner Philharmoniker berufen. Nikisch, der in den letzten 20 Jahren seines Lebens begeistert gefeiert wurde, gilt bis heute als einer der bedeutendsten Dirigenten überhaupt. Die Biografie des Musikwissenschaftlers Arthur Dette entstand 1922 unmittelbar nach Nikischs Tod. (Verlagstext). Zustand: Einband leicht lädiert, angestaubt und etwas beschabt.
