Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. There are oiily brown spots on pp. 103 through 111 -- this book is "good" but no better. The original jacket is "very-good-minus" with smll tears to corners. Henry "Hap" Arnold served as commander of the U.S. Army Air Forces through World War II, founded what would become the military think-tank the RAND Corporation in 1945, and became the first general of the Air Force shortly after its separate creation in 1947. He wrote this series of six aviation juveniles (of which this was the fifth) for his son, William Bruce Arnold, while stationed at the sleepy cavalry post of Fort Riley, Kansas in the late 1920s. Though it's sometimes described as "the popular series," evidence is to the contrary -- after the first six-book "starter set" was published in 1928. no additional titles followed, leaving survivors from this series somewhat thin on the ground. 255 pp., here reduced from $90. Frontispiece and jacket illustration (identical albeit the jacket in color) by C(hris) Richard Schaare (illustrator).…
