Brossura. Condition: new. English Text. Firenze, 2015; paperback, pp. 84, ill., b/w and col. plates, cm 24x22. (Fotografia). According to Istat (the Italian National Institute of Statistics), Prato (Italy) has the highest proportion of Chinese immigrants of any Italian province. In 1989 there were only 38 Chinese residents in Prato, by 1991 there were 1009 and by the end of 2006 there were 10080 legal Chinese residents. In the last thirty years the Italian and Chinese communities in Prato have been forced closer together. For this reason they have developed a new identity, the "sameness of essential or generic character in different instances" (Webster Merriam Dictionary definition for "identity"). There are certainly still elements of diversity between these communities, but each year this new 'hidden identity' is growing. The aim of the photographic research combined with psychological analysis is to document this new 'hidden identity'. Libro.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book follows the journey of an Italian Count as he travels through America in the mid-19th century. The memoir provides a valuable account of a time when the nation was still developing, documenting the differences between an aristocratic European perspective and the egalitarian ideals he observed. The author provides vivid and detailed descriptions of his experiences encountering slavery, inequality, and the growing pains of a young nation. Despite the stark contrast between his aristocratic upbringing and the democratic society he traverses, the author maintains an unbiased eye, offering insights into both the virtues and vices of American culture. Through his adventure, the author offers a unique and thought-provoking perspective on themes of cultural identity, liberty, and the human condition during the time of America's westward expansion. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book reviews photographic portrayals of contemporary Italian migrants living in the area between Lausanne and Geneva in Switzerland (Arc Lémanique). Drawing from the archives of Swiss-French illustrated magazines (L'IllustréandL'Hebdo) and other online publications, the author analyses the distinctive photographic representations of Italian migrants in Switzerland from the 1960s to 2019 anduses them to produce new photographic portraits of the 21stcentury Italian migrants on theArc Lémanique.Challenging the narrative on thebrain drain, the book showcases 24 portraits of Italians living in Switzerland with the aim to unveil the unique and complex nature of a new Italian diaspora in the age of globalization. The combination of theories, concepts, and methodologies used reflects the interdisciplinary and creative approach of this research, which brings together culture, identity, photography, and creative process. Based on the lived experience of the author as an Italian migrant in Switzerland, the book offers a profound analysis of the phenomenon of migration and identity through visual communication. The interviews included in chapter 4 were originally conducted and recorded by the author in Italian. The English version is the result of a translation done with the help of artificial intelligence. The author has subsequently corrected and revised the text further in an endeavour to refine the work stylistically.…
