An absolutely beautiful 18th century edition of The Principles of the Christian Religion Explained: In a Brief Commentary upon the Church-Catechism. By William Wake, Lord Archbishop of Canterbury. Fifth Edition. Dated to 1731 & in fantastic condition for its age. Bindings, s…trong & hinges all strong & sturdy. Pages are in very good shape for being just shy of 300 years of age. Has some ink inscriptions to the inside of front & back covers, one dating to 1735. Has a small section of the outer spinal title tab chipped however retains the majority & some slight scuffing to the leather however for a book of this age, this is a well preserved example. Bound in full leather hardback boards with remnants of the original gilt lettering to the spine. Has absolutely beautiful, small woodcut illustrations & letter capitalisations. The text is printed in a mixture of Roman type with decorative blackletter (Gothic) headings and passages, typical of early eighteenth-century printing.
