In kunstvoll rhythmischem Latein schildert er das Leben des fränkischen Missionsbischofs Emmeram, seine asketische Lebensweise, sein freiwilliges Martyrium im Herzogtum Bayern sowie die spätere Überführung seiner Gebeine nach Regensburg. Der Text ist stark geprägt von typologischen Bezügen zur Passionsgeschichte Christi und spiegelt die geistig-politischen Anliegen der karolingischen Kirche.
