Paperback. Condition: New. What accounts for the regression of Turkey's stature from a ""model"" country to one riddled with state crisis and conflict? Unable to adapt to the challenges of the era and failing to respond to ethnic and multicultural political demands for reform, the Turkish state has resisted change and stuck to i…ts ideological roots stemming from the 1930s.In Turkey's State Crisis, Aras delves into the historical, political, and geopolitical background of the country's decline. In an effort to delineate the origin of the crisis, Aras investigates several perspectives: the political elites' attempt to change the administrative system to create a performance-oriented one; the bureaucracy's response, concerns, and resistance to change; the state's conflict resolution capacity; and the transformation of foreign/security policy. Providing a comprehensive portrait of the Turkish state's turmoil, Aras creates a blueprint for the ways in which much-needed reforms can break vicious cycles of political polarization, rising authoritarianism, and weak state institutions.

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 172 p. This book aims to analyze Turkish policy in the Greater Middle East area. The events and discussions that view the region as having a discrete political as well as geographic identity have gained prominence in political circles and in academi…c analysis. The U.S. administration's stated goals are to create order and stability in the Greater Middle East area that consists of the countries from North Africa to Indian subcontinent and from Saudi Arabia to Central Asian steppes. Since the September 11 attacks to the U.S., the only country that promoted both security and freedom at home in the Greater Middle East region has been Turkey. Thanks to its dual European and Middle Eastern identities, its political and social modernization and its democratic standards, Turkey is strategically important to both U.S. and European interests in many respects and is therefore a natural key to any plan or concept that aims to promote democracy and raise living standards in this region. With its ability to reconcile democracy and Islam and as well as democracy and security, Turkey is the best candidate to suggest and help initiate internal mechanisms for positive change in the Greater Middle East.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. ARAS, BULENT - ERTAN AYDIN et al. Turkiye'nin Kurt sorunu algisi. Ankara: Seta & Pollmark, 2009. 4to., 165 p. Study on the perception of the Kurdish problem in the Turkish society. Paperback. Very good ISBN: CATALOG: Kurds KEYWORDS: Kurds Kurdish question Southeast Anatolia Eastern Anatolia soci…ology Turkiye'nin Kurt Sorunu Algisi" arastirmasi, Turkiye genelini temsilen cok asamali ornekleme yontemiyle belirlenen 601 koy ve mahallede, 2.497 noktada toplam 10.577 kisi uzerinde gerceklestirilmistir. Anket uygulamasinin %10'u uygulama sonrasinda telefonla denetlenmistir. Ayni sekilde, siyaset kurumunun sorumluluk almasi gerekliligi konusunda etnik kokene gore farklilik azalirken, TSK'nin sorunun cozumundeki rolu konusunda artmaktadir. Cok belirgin.
