Soft cover. Condition: New. In April 1719, a small band of Scotch-Irish settlers under the guiding spirit of Rev. James MacGregor founded the town of Londonderry in New Hampshire, which was destined to be an early Presbyterian stronghold in America. The keeping of vital records in Londonderry commenced almost at once. Years later, when the town voted to fund the printing of these vital records for the period from 1719 to 1910, there were approximately 25,000 records of births, marriages, marriage intentions and deaths. Compiled by the former town clerk and tax collector, Daniel Annis, the records are given here in alphabetical order under those four main headings: Births, Marriage Intentions, Marriages, and Deaths. In addition to the vital records, this work includes a portrait of Gen. George Reid; Certificates of Town Clerk and Compiler; Coat of Arms of Campbell, Duke of Argyle; brief biographical sketches of Daniel Gage Annis and Gen. George Reid; The Romance of "Ocean Mary;" and Ancestors of the Colonists of Londonderry.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a unique and fascinating glimpse into the history of Londonderry, New Hampshire, a town founded in 1719 by a group of Scotch-Irish immigrants. The author delves into the origins of these pioneers, tracing their ancestry back to ancient Celtic tribes and highlighting the religious persecution they endured in both Scotland and Ireland. The book meticulously documents the lives of these early settlers through detailed vital records, including births, marriages, and deaths. Beyond a mere genealogical record, the book explores the rich tapestry of Londonderryââ â¢s early years. We learn about the town's founding, its early struggles for survival, and the arrival of prominent figures like General George Reid, a Revolutionary War hero, and Ocean Mary, whose romantic story of escape from pirates adds a touch of adventure to the narrative. The author also meticulously traces the historical context of the Scotch-Irish diaspora, placing their story within the broader framework of religious dissent and the fight for freedom of conscience. The book's detailed record of the lives of these courageous individuals, coupled with its insightful examination of their cultural heritage, provides a powerful testament to the resilience and determination of those who sought a new life in the New World. It offers a captivating journey into the past, showcasing the enduring legacy of the Scotch-Irish settlers who played a vital role in shaping the American story.
