Seine Gemälde und Zeichnungen umfassen Porträts, Stadtansichten und Landschaften und immer wieder Darstellungen des homosexuellen Untergrundmilieus mit seinen Stripshows, einschlägigen Bars und Badehäusern. Dabei ging es Angus jedoch weniger um ein politisches Statement, als vielmehr um die Wiedergabe menschlicher Grundbedürfnisse, Sehnsüchte und Ängste. Seine Bilder sind Metaphern für die Suche nach der eigenen Identität und damit auch der geschlechtlichen Selbstfindung. Mit seinen Kompositionen und seinem Einsatz von Licht und expressiver Farbigkeit schafft Angus es, nicht nur die Ungehemmtheit seiner Modelle, sondern die ganz besondere Atmosphäre, in der sie sich bewegen, einzufangen. Sein großes Vorbild war der in Kalifornien lebende britische Maler David Hockney. Dieser wurde 1992 auf Angus aufmerksam und erwarb noch zu Lebzeiten sechs seiner Arbeiten. Das Werk von Patrick Angus, der im Alter von 38 Jahren an den Folgen seiner HIV-Infektion starb, war bislang ein Geheimtipp und blieb in der Kunstszene weitgehend unentdeckt. Dabei ging es Angus jedoch weniger um ein politisches Statement, als vielmehr um die Wiedergabe menschlicher Grundbedürfnisse, Sehnsüchte und Ängste. Seine Bilder sind Metaphern für die Suche nach der eigenen Identität und damit auch der geschlechtlichen Selbstfindung. Mit seinen Kompositionen und seinem Einsatz von Licht und expressiver Farbigkeit schafft Angus es, nicht nur die Ungehemmtheit seiner Modelle, sondern die ganz besondere Atmosphäre, in der sie sich bewegen, einzufangen. Sein großes Vorbild war der in Kalifornien lebende britische Maler David Hockney. Dieser wurde 1992 auf Angus aufmerksam und erwarb noch zu Lebzeiten sechs seiner Arbeiten. Das Werk von Patrick Angus, der im Alter von 38 Jahren an den Folgen seiner HIV-Infektion starb, war bislang ein Geheimtipp und blieb in der Kunstszene weitgehend unentdeckt.
