The birth of this second book by Angelo Vignali happened when he approached the enormous archive of photographs and drawings his father produced throughout his life. Vignali, whose work is often systematic, decided to take anot…her path and went for a very personal matter. He discovered 313 black and white cut-out vintage prints of his father fingers. While working with these photographs and bringing back the presence of his father's hand, Vignali saw the astonishing similarity with his own hands. The photographic and performative book 'How to raise a hand' is mysterious, touching and funny at the same time. The author raises questions like: What if family is more similar to each other than we ever could imagine? What if our bond with who is no more with us, is very substantial? Do those who are no longer alive, keep on living within us? The best result in making art is when you totally surprise yourself and others with the result of it. Flattened in Time and Space è un romanzo familiare visivo, la cui trama si s…viluppa attorno alla figura di Concetto, nato a Scicli, in Sicilia, nel 1921. Le fotografie, estratte da album di famiglia e rimontate, sono state scattate dal nipote, Angelo Vignali, dalla sua famiglia e dai suoi amici.La sequenza, che abbraccia oltre cinquant'anni, priva lo spettatore delle coordinate spazio-temporali e dell'identità di chi ha scattato le fotografie, creando una nuova narrazione. FITAS è un ritratto tratto dalle relazioni tra persone, luoghi ed eventi che hanno animato la scena della vita di Concetto. Un susseguirsi di sguardi dalla finestra sulla campagna: le fattorie abbandonate e le stazioni di servizio, le colline polverose siciliane, il cielo e il Mar Mediterraneo. Pochi personaggi sullo sfondo punteggiano il paesaggio, fino a quell'interno domestico, sempre uguale, ma diverso nei minimi dettagli: la casa che lo stesso Concetto ha costruito e dove vive ancora oggi. C'è un "lessico familiare" nel modo in cui guardiamo e rappresentiamo i luoghi e le persone che ci stanno a cuore: la nostra storia?Il percorso intrapreso da Vignali nella costruzione di questo progetto - che di fatto vede la sua prima e completa espressione nella 'forma libro' - trova una chiave di lettura importante negli studi dello psicologo americano James Hillman (Healing Fiction, 1983), riguardo al ruolo della narrazione in psicoterapia. Raccontare la propria storia è un processo immaginativo in cui l'individuo osserva e riorganizza lo svolgersi del tempo della sua vita - l'emanazione di ricordi, sogni e fantasie. Vignali riscrive così la trama, rivede il passato, fino a trovare una nuova coerenza interna: si riconosce per mezzo della trascrizione (garanzia dell'umanità della memoria e dell'eternità). In questo contesto, l'identità del protagonista, il suo volto, è solo l'epilogo del viaggio. Book.
