Car en réalité ces publications d'aspect modeste, avec un dessin de couverture qui n'e…st jamais vraiment percutant, possèdent non seulement du charme, mais sont aussi bien éditées. Et qui plus est elles offrent un texte toujours de qualité et des photos au moins égales et imprimées selon le fameux système de l'héliogravure dont nos imprimeurs suisses avaient la maîtrise absolue.

Sur la grand-route qui longeait la montagne de Martigny à Riddes ou l'on franchissait le Rhone sur un pont de bois pour joindre Saint-Pierre de Clages, ils laissaient à leur gauche le bourg juché sur son roche…r et isolé par de nombreux marécages. Hildebrand Schiner, docteur en médecine de la Faculté de Montpellier, dans sa Description du Département du Simplon., parue en 1812, consacre à peine quelques lignes à ce village ; dans le français barbare qui lui est congénital, il émet de banales considérations sur la salubrité de l'air et les vertus de sa « source d'eau tiède minérale ».
