Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A. R. Ammon's book of poetry, "Tape for the Turn of the Year" was first published by Cornell University Press. This 1972 edition was published by agreement with Cornell by W. W. Norton in the Norton Library. It is the First Paperback Edition, with number line to that effect. It's an… unusual work; on the rear cover of the book is a quote from a review by Harold Bloom : "A. R Ammons originally wrote this long, thin poem - a journal of the period December 6, 1963 to January 10, 1964 - on a roll of adding-machine tape, then transferred it foot by dogged foot to transcript. This, the most surprising formal invention of a major innovator, is the fullest vision Ammons gives us of his enormous creative enterprise. Among the major descendants of Whitman's 'Song of Myself', 'Tape' occupies an essential imaginative space, showing us much about what is essential in the American poetic Imagination." SERIES : Norton Library TITLE : Tape for the Turn of the Year AUTHOR : A. A. Ammons (Archie Randolph Ammons , 1926 - 2001) IMPRINT : W. W. Norton PLACE : New York DATE : 1972 EDITION : First Paperback Edition, First Norton Edition STATUS : [There seems to be a lot of online confusion in the many listings for this title, which was later reprinted. Cornell University took out the copyright in 1965, and then, in 1972, Norton arranged with Cornell for the publication of this edition, which is the First Norton Edition - and also the First Paperback Edition. Original publisher's price printed on front cover.] Trade paperback; 205 pages; 5 1/16" x 7 11/16"; photo-pictorial wraps, glued. Cover photo of twigs against snow by John Benedict. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book which remains clean and attractive, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR - Mild surface rub; slight toning to text-block edges and to spine surface; a shallow cease to the bottom fore-edge corner of the back cover . basically clean and bright BINDING - Solid INTERIOR - Clean and free of marking. No signatures. John Benedict (Photograph) (illustrator).
