Smith was in the Department of Physics at Ohio State University during an interesting period of time for electrical engineering and related disciplines. In 1948 the transistor was invented, which changed electronics forever. This is a great example of what was being taught in a University Environment at that time. The manual is organized as a laboratory experiment instructor, with a section on reports and how they should be written, followed by the 36 experiments. Good form for engineers is suggested - put your results in a permanently bound record, not loose pages. Cross out errors, don't erase them - you might need to refer to these later. The Experiments have a short Theory section, followed by the Experiment. There are thirty-six experiments including "Standardization of an Ammeter by Means of a Leeds and Northrup Potentiometer" ; "The Commutator Type of Watt-Hour Meter" ; "The Cathode Ray Oscillograph" and many other interesting topics.
