The sporting biography of John "Mad Jack" Mytton (1796-1834), Shropshire squire, former M.P. for Shrewsbury and High Sheriff, remembered for his hunting, shooting, driving, racing, and extravagant exploits. The text was first serialized in the New Sporting Magazine. This is a later, undated Kegan Paul reprint (the title page reads "reprinted with considerable additions"), not the original 1830s edition. Engraved vignette title page and color plates with captioned tissue guards, including the frontispiece. Publisher's green ribbed cloth, gilt lettering to spine, gilt block to front board. Condition: Good+. Not ex-library. Spine head and tail chipped and frayed with some cloth loss. The cover has a interior tear running along the front gutter which while not entirely loose is at risk of becoming so without gentle care there is evidence of attempts at repair, there is also a stamp bearing the name of a previous owner on the black page opposite the paste-down. The inside text and plates appear clean and clear of stains or writing.
