Nadat hij zich 10 jaar lang, in allerlei 'ridderlijke' wetenschap te Leuven bekwaamd had, werd de 22-jarige student door een commissie van 3 leden (.) aangezocht om samen met hen via Antwerpen naar Zeeland te trekken, waar zij met nog enige Hoekse ballingen Sluis bereikten. (.) 'Jonker' Frans werd door de hoekse ballingen tot 'oppersten kapitein' uitgeroepen of als stadhouder-generaal voor de onmondige Philips van Oostenrijk om hun land te beschermen tegen de Hollanders en de Roomse koning. (.) Hij besloot tot de inval in Holland (Jonker Fransenoorlog) waar hij 20 november 1488 's nachts bij de Maasmonden (het Jonker Fransen-gat) aankwam (.). 20 november 1488 viel Rotterdam in Hoekse handen.
