Lyon 1661 Pierre Fradin 1 volume in folio 37 x 23 cm de 2 folios non chiffrés, 469 folios, 21 folios non chiffrés le dernier avec la marque de Pierre Fradin bien présent. Soit un fort volume de 984 de nos pages actuelles. plein vélin rigide de l'époque, dos teinté marron probablement au XIXe , et pièce de titre en maroquin marine du XIXe. Les impressions de Pierre Fradin sont remarquables il utilise pour cet ouvrage un alphabet de lettrines historiées intéressant avec de nombreuses scènes de Vénerie, chasse à la bécasse mais aussi un importante lettrine du mythe de Leda Zeus, voyant Leda, la femme du roi de Sparte Tyndare, se baigner dans le fleuve Euratos, la désira. Pour s en approcher, il conçut la ruse de se métamorphoser en cygne. Aphrodite métamorphosée en aigle effarouchant le cygne. Leda prit entre ses bras le cygne effrayé, et Zeus en profita pour s unir à elle. Leda éleva Helene comme sa fille, Hélene, ne serait ce pas le personnage qui sort de l uf en bas à droite de la lettrine ? Cette lettrine dans un livre de droit in folio, « les réponses d Alciat ». Alciat est plus connu des bibliophiles pour son livre d emblèmes que ses écrits juridiques. Hasard ou hommage, l imprimeur Lyonnais utilise un très bel alphabet de lettrines historiées dans ce livre, et il connait forcément les emblèmes d Alciat qui firent le bonheur des éditeurs Lyonnais au XVIe avec de multiples éditions illustrées. Si le privilège du roi est au nom de Gabiano, en page 4 Gabiano cède ce privilège a Fradin le 9 novembre 1560 pour cette édition originale datée 1561. Fradin travaille avec les nouveaux caractères ronds achetés par Hugues de la porte et les frères Gabiano de la compagnie des libraires de Lyon qui remplacent les caractères gothiques jusqu'alors employés. Pierre Fradin fut l'imprimeur attitré de la ville de Lyon. Fils ainé de François Fradin et Clémence Chénard il ne conserva pas les marques paternelles qui eurent le sort des caractères gothiques , et on le voit faire dessiner une nouvelle marque par Georges Reverdi peintre alors en vogue, représentant une sirène ailée accompagnée d'une devise en grec dont l'unique mérite réside dans le jeu de mot donnant Fradin en grec. Baudrier bibliographie Lyonnaise T11 page 153. Remarquable impression Lyonnaise sur les réponses aux questions de droit d'Alciat. Alciat est un célèbre jurisconsulte Italien bien connu par les bibliophiles pour son livre d'emblème qui connu de nombreuses éditions au XVIe.
