Gilt top edge; deckle fore-edge and deckle bottom edge. Endpapers toned;… front pastedown adorned with personal bookplate of A.V.L. Brokaw, M.D.; a few foxing spots on initial leaves with small light shallow stains at upper fore-edge margins of some early text leaves; interior pages overall remain quite clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy. With twelve full-page b/w photogravures on unpaged leaves each retaining their tissue guard sheets plus eight other smaller photogravures interspersed amongst text; several other tissue guard sheets laid-in; printer's colophon at book's rear. THE GRANDISSIMES was first published in book form in 1880 after being serialized in Scribner's magazine. A.V.L. Brokaw was apparently a St. Louis, Missouri abdominal surgeon circa 1880s-1920s although the book turned up in a Demopolis, Alabama estate. Please note that this thick book has an approximate shipping weight of 3.5 pounds (1.58 kg) and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail. {LitShelf#1}.
