The author conducted daily Nansen casts to sample 14 prescribed levels down to 1400 meters, wea…ther and operational commitments permitting. Additionally, 20 deep casts were taken successfully during the period. This extensive data collection provides insights into the annual temperature and salinity cycles at this location, revealing seasonal patterns influenced by the surrounding environment's interplay. Furthermore, temperature and salinity cycles with periods of 2 to 3 months were observed at depths between 200 and 800 m, suggesting periodic intrusions of warmer, more saline Gulf Stream water. The presence of Mediterranean Water at intermediate depths is also noted, contributing to the complex water mass characteristics of Ocean Station ECHO.
