Seller: Bolerium Books Inc., San Francisco, CA, U.S.A.Bolerium Books Inc.
Contact seller5-star sellerNewspaper. 16p., folded tabloid underground newspaper, news, opinion, articles, photos, events, actions, comix, psychedelia, evenly toned, front wrap stained with one stain bleeding through to next few pages, small section torn out of one edge with no loss of text, else good on newsprint. The Express Times was S.F.'s main politi…cal underground paper. Became San Francisco Good Times and later Good Times. Garson was a member of the Free Speech Movement in Berkeley and was jailed in December because of his involvement with the Democratic national Convention protests. Cover headline seems tongue-in-cheek as the accompanying report on Draft Week demonstrations is extremely jaundiced and dismissive of aborted efforts to stir up the crowd. Main feature article in the issue is a transcript of a joint press conference held in Newark, NJ by Leroi Jones (soon to be Amari Baraka), Charles Kinney, a Newark police detective, and Anthony Imperiale, a local player in the Italian American community, the purpose of which seems to have been to clear up "misunderstandings" between Newark Blacks and whites, police, and SDS community organizers. The centerspread is a fold-out poster for "FREE" which celebrates the projects and visions of the post-Diggers' Free City Collective in a giant run-on sentence by Express Times co-editor Robert Novick and photos of free food, free poetry, and short skirts.

Contact seller5-star sellerMagazine. 32p. including covers, 5.5x8.5 inches, very good first edition digest size magazine in stapled pictorial wraps. A Serious Look at Dr. Ray Evans by Cory & LeRoy. On Matters Personal & Impersonal by Cory. Red Leaves, fiction by Colton/Hansen. Prohibition, poetry by Morgan. One, Inc., which took its name from Thomas Carly…le's statement that "A mystic bond of brotherhood makes all men one," was founded in LA in 1952 as a homophile organization with connections to the Mattachine Society. As the first pro-gay journal of its kind, it serves as an important source for pre-Stonewall homophile studies. In 1954 the US Post Office declared it obscene, leading to a four-year legal battle (chronicled in its pages) that concluded with a favorable decision as part of Roth vs. United States. Aside from its articles covering topics ranging from the Beatniks and Gay marriage to homosexuality and national security, One Magazine also featured poetry and short fiction by numerous prominent authors.
