Ex libris Helen Violet Graham (1879-1945), President of the Young Women's Christian Association and daughter of the 5th Duke of Montrose, with her bookplate to front pastedown and her inscription to flyleaf. Half-bound in dark blue morocco with blue linen over boards by Douglas and Foulis of Edinburgh, with spine lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt. Pale blue marbled endpapers. Scuff to tail of spine, light edgewear, and spot of rubbing to cloth over rear board, else near fine. Binding is firm and sound. Very occasional pencilled mark to pages. A handsome turn-of-the-century of Charles Lamb's beloved collection of essays, finely bound by Douglas and Foulis of Edinburgh and with interesting provenance.

(xxii) + 424pp. Spine faded, lightly rubbed at ends and with title label apparently 'refreshed' with gold and black pens; inner hinges repaired in a couple of places with white adhesive tape; a little minor foxing on endpapers and first and last few leaves; internal text clean and bright throughout.
