This is a clean, officially de-accessioned library volume. James Agate was one of England's leading theatre critics in the early decades of the twentieth century. As critics went, he was the in-man with the theatre, so much so, that he counted amongst his acquaintances the great Sarah Bernhardt. The book here offered, "Fantasies and Impromptus", collects together sundry bright essays on a variety of subjects, including two of his favorite things: Sarah Bernhardt and the sport of Cricket. These essays are highly entertaining and it is evident why the public so looked forward to his contributions in the newspapers for which he wrote.
