Sekundarbedürfnisse wie die Arterhaltung sind für das einzelne Individuum zwar lustvoll, aber nicht lebensnotwendig. Doch da fängt es schon an mit den Dingen, die Spaß machen. Wir umgeben uns mit Dingen, die uns Freude machen, und suchen nach Partnerschaften. Es ist schon seltsam: Man wünscht sich meistens das, was man nicht hat. Ist dies nicht ein Ausdruck der Entfremdung, der Vereinzelung von den uns umgebenen Dingen? Gehören nicht all die als Einzeldinge wahrgenommenen Erscheinungen aus unserer Umwelt zusammen? Was macht die Distanz dazwischen eigentlich so schwer überbrückbar? Was läuft verkehrt, wenn es sehr schwer ist, etwas Bestimmtes zu besitzen? Kann überhaupt etwas besessen werden, ohne es zu verlieren? Philosophische Interpretationen sind hier nicht der Gegenstand unserer Betrachtung. Es geht vielmehr um eine Technik, die ohne größeren Aufwand möglichst einfach praktiziert werden kann. Dabei spielen weder Glaube noch Hoffnung oder Weltanschauung eine Rolle. Das hört sich gut an, wird der Leser sich sagen, doch will ich nicht verhehlen, dass auch hier (wie bei allen anderen Dingen des Lebens auch) ein Mindestmaß an Kontrolle vorausgesetzt werden muss. Andererseits ist es ein Anzeichen von Wahn, wenn sich bei jemandem der Anspruch festgesetzt hat, über etwas Kontrolle ausüben zu können. Das funktioniert ja nicht einmal bei uns selbst, sonst würden wir z. B. nicht krank werden. Wir können uns höchstens bemühen, eine Annäherung an ein zu kontrollierendes Ding herbeizuführen. Doch wird dieses Bemühen ein stetiges sein müssen, soll sich diesbezüglich etwas wie Erfolg einstellen. Die entsprechende magische Technik, mit der das erreicht werden kann, heißt Sigillenmagie. Sie wurde gegründet und erfolgreich praktiziert von dem englischen Magier Austin Osman Spare (1886-1956). Sein Wirken gab den Anstoß dazu, dass sich diese magische Schule neben der damals noch vorherrschenden, mit religiösen Elementen behafteten Ritualmagie etablieren konnte. Austin Osman Spare war ein Zeitgenosse von Aleister Crowley. Vielleicht war er nicht so schillernd und berüchtigt wie dieser, doch seine Magietechnik war effektiv, möglicherweise gar effektiver als die Lehren seines berüchtigten Kollegen. Neben Magie und Okkultismus beschäftigte er sich mit Grafik und Malerei. Ausführlichere Hinweise zu seiner Person finden Sie im Literaturnachweis. Die Malerei ist eine Disziplin, die der rechten Hirnhälfte zugeordnet wird, ebenso wie das Schreiben und die Intuition. Auch die Magie ist dort zu Hause. Sie ist eine Kunst, die sich dem analytischen, wissenschaftlichen, rationalen Verhalten, für das die linke Hirnhälfte zuständig ist, entzieht. Mitte der 80er Jahre wurde die Sigillenmagie durch den pragmatischen Magier Frater V.D. im deutschsprachigen Raum populär gemacht. Sein Grundlagenwerk Sigillenmagie in der Praxis entwickelte sich bald zum Magie-Klassiker, der auch in Japan und den USA publiziert wurde. Auch der englische Magier und IOT-Begründer Pete Carroll ist hier als einer der Pioniere zu nennen.
