Beginnend mit… Illustrationen zu berühmten Romanen von Truman Capote oder Katherine Anne Porter, schuf er als erfolgreicher Grafiker auch verspielte Themenhefte, die er in der New Yorker Modewelt als Werbegeschenke verteilte. Er übernahm die Gestaltung von Bucheinbänden großer Verlage und bereicherte die Gedichtbände befreundeter Schriftsteller mit Siebdrucken und Lithografien. In seinen eigenen Bildbänden dokumentierte er das filmisch-fotografische Schaffen seiner Factory. Warhol sprengte herkömmliche Literaturgenres, indem er Tonbandaufnahmen transkribieren und publizieren ließ. Im ausführlichen Band werden seine buchgestalterischen und schriftstellerischen Leistungen aus kunsthistorischer wie literaturtheoretischer Sicht vorgestellt.
