Porque, en efecto, se trata fundamentalmente de una obra sobre cómo se "habla" la ciencia, de manera que su pregunta básica se centra en el modo en que utilizamos el lenguaje científico especializado para dar sentido al mundo. Y ello no significa simplemente hablar acerca de la ciencia, sino también hacer ciencia a través del lenguaje: observar, describir, comparar, clasificar, analizar, discutir, teorizar, cuestionar, desafiar, argumentar, juzgar, evaluar, decidir, concluir, generalizar, escribir, leer y enseñar en y a través del lenguaje de la ciencia.La conclusión de todo ello, evidentemente, es que la ciencia es un proceso social, por lo que el libro, aparte de analizar qué hacemos cuando hablamos ciencia en el aula, aborda también la educación científica en contextos sociales más amplios y, por consiguiente, respecto a actitudes, valores e intereses que van más allá de los puramente utilitarios. Algo que, sin duda, resultará muy útil para todos los estudiantes, a veces obnubilados por una mística que tiende a hacer que la ciencia aparezca ante sus ojos como dogmática, autoritaria, impersonal e incluso inhumana. Se trata, pues, de una cuestión de lenguaje, pero también de poder.
