Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This innovative book focuses on potential, limitations, and recommendations for the digital mental health landscape. Authors synthesize existing literature on the validity of digital health technologies, including smartphones apps, sensors, chatbots and telepsychiatry for mental health disorders. They also note that collecting real-time biological information is usually better than just collect filled-in forms, and that will also mitigate problems related to recall bias in clinical appointments. Limitations such as confidentiality, engagement and retention rates are moreover discussed. Presented in fifteen chapters, the work addresses the following questions: may smartphones and sensors provide more accurate information about patients' symptoms between clinical appointments, which in turn avoid recall bias Is there evidence that digital phenotyping could help in clinical decisions in mental health Is there scientific evidence to support the use of mobile interventions in mental health Digital Mental Health will help clinicians and researchers, especially psychiatrists and psychologists, to define measures and to determine how to test apps or usefulness, feasibility and efficacy in order to develop a consensus about reliability. These professionals will be armed with the latest evidence as well as prepared to a new age of mental health.…

Buch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book integrates the concepts of big data analytics into mental health practice and research.Mental disorders represent a public health challenge of staggering proportions. According to the most recent Global Burden of Disease study, psychiatric disorders constitute the leading cause of years lost to disability. The high morbidity and mortality related to these conditions are proportional to the potential for overall health gains if mental disorders can be more effectively diagnosed and treated. In order to fill these gaps, analysis in science, industry, and government seeks to use big data for a variety of problems, including clinical outcomes and diagnosis in psychiatry. Multiple mental healthcare providers and research laboratories are increasingly using large data sets to fulfill their mission. Briefly, big data is characterized by high volume, high velocity, variety and veracity of information, and to be useful it must be analyzed, interpreted, and acted upon. As such, focus has to shift to new analytical tools from the field of machine learning that will be critical for anyone practicing medicine, psychiatry and behavioral sciences in the 21st century. Big data analytics is gaining traction in psychiatric research, being used to provide predictive models for both clinical practice and public health systems. As compared with traditional statistical methods that provide primarily average group-level results, big data analytics allows predictions and stratification of clinical outcomes at an individual subject level.Personalized Psychiatry- Big Data Analytics in Mental Healthprovides a unique opportunity to showcase innovative solutions tackling complex problems in mental health using big data and machine learning. It represents an interesting platform to work with key opinion leaders to document current achievements, introduce new concepts as well as project the future role of big data and machine learning in mental health.…

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Latent bipolar disorder was first introduced to discuss cases where individuals with depression who have been unresponsive to antidepressant therapy were introduced to lithium as an adjunctive treatment to the antidepressants, and when lithium was discontinued, these individuals were at a greater risk of developing bipolar disorder. This concept was later integrated into stating models proposed for bipolar disorder, to describe the subset of individuals who present mood and anxiety symptoms and increased risk for developing threshold bipolar disorder. Latent bipolar disorder has been discussed as a clinical dilemma, given its complexity, and researchers have emphasized that operational criteria for the identification of latent bipolar disorder are a major unmet need in the field of mental health. Thus, this book provides a detailed description of the current literature supporting the identification of latent bipolar disorder, which will potentially help with the establishment of an operational criteria for the identification of latent bipolar disorder. For instance, the importance of using antidepressants with caution in young individuals with depression has been discussed; however, there is no clear consensus on how to identify this specific population that initially presents with mood symptoms (e.g., unspecified mood symptoms, major depressive disorder), but is highly vulnerable to developing bipolar disorder. The accurate identification of latent bipolar disorder has substantial implications for clinical practice. This is because it is well known that the treatments for major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder differ substantially, and the appropriate treatment results in a better prognosis. This work will provide evidence-based findings to help clinicians to identify latent bipolar disorder. Edited by leading researchers in the field, the book systematically covers the theoretical basis for the definition of latent bipolar disorder, data-driven findings supporting this definition, challenges, and future directions, as well as clinical implications and recommendations for practice.Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, will find this work valuable. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Bipolar disorder is a complex disease and requires specialized care for its assessment and effective treatment. It has a worldwide prevalence of about 2% and is among the top 10 leading causes of disability adjusted life years in young adults. Additionally, people with bipolar disorder die around 10 years earlier, and the lifetime risk of suicide is estimated to be at least 20 times that of the general population. Although these findings illustrate the severity and complexity of this illness, we are living exciting times in the field of bipolar disorder for several reasons.Over the last 20 years, novel and evidence based pharmacological and psychosocial strategies have been added to the treatment of bipolar disorder. Several studies addressed the natural history of the disease and showed that the course of bipolar disorder is heterogeneous but, on average, the risk of recurrence increases with the number of previous episodes. Neuroscience has shed light on the molecular underpinnings of the potential decline in cognition and physical health that takes place in some people with bipolar disorder. Some studies added weight to the theory that immune activation is a key component in driving the changes that take place in the brain and its periphery. Lastly, new technologies and lifestyle approaches are gaining tracking in the field of bipolar disorder. Smartphone apps and sensors have promise to provide the means to digital interventions. Moreover, machine learning algorithms and big data have the potential to pave the way to predictive psychiatry, an exciting new field, where the use of large data sets may allow us to predict responses and clinical outcomes, such as suicide attempts. The book is intended for psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals. Written by experts, the 41 chapters are divided in six sections to discuss: The natural history of bipolar disorder; Biological underpinnings; Pharmacological treatment; Psychosocial interventions; Special populations; and New approaches to diagnosis and intervention. It will also discuss the use of antipsychotics and lithium as disease modifying agents, and clinical progression and neuroprogression concepts.Bipolar Disorder - An Evidence-Based Clinical Guidewill arm clinicians and researchers with the latest findings, as well as refine the necessary skills to provide the best clinical care.…
