Born Durban, South Africa 1950. Now retired to Prince Albert, Western Cape.

Graduate, BA Hons. Literature, Bristol University (1973). Further education at Stanford Uni., Palo Alto.

Junior Lecturer in English, University of Cape Town.

Freelance journalist and staff reporter for Cape Times, Daily Dispatch, Sunday Times, Mail & Guardian, and other papers.

Public Relations consultant.

Commissioning editor and publisher for various publishing companies including Maskew Miller Longman, Kagiso Publishers and Juta publishers. Represented the German company Ernst Klett Verlag in South Africa. Ended publishing career as managing director of Juta-Gariep, and executive and non-executive of Juta Publishers.

Wrote two non-fiction books, Open Minds, Closed Minds and Christianity, and Don’t Follow Leaders, published by small SA press, Aardvark.

Academic papers include ‘Against Moral Seriousness’, Cambridge Quarterly Vol. 44, No. One, 2015.

Judge of non-fiction for the Sunday Times Alan Paton Literary Awards.

Loves most animals, many small children, and a few adults.
