He has worked as a researcher, criti…c, curator and artist. In all these roles, he has steeped himself in issues of modernity, postmodernity and socialism. Sarje has written and edited numerous books about art, architecture and philosophy, and he has works in the collections of major art museums in Finland. His montage exhibition Apartment on the Prospect, which examined Finland, Karelia and Russia, was presented in Helsinki in 2011. The study analyzes the starting points and changes of both Frosterus's architecture and his modern worldview. The First World War made Frosterus retreat from his attitude emphasizing science and control of nature and adopt an ethical perspective that takes care of humanity as a species. In construction, it meant emphasizing the value of the classical style of architecture, traditional materials and craftsmanship, alongside steel and mechanical engineering. Sigurd Frosterus (1876-1956) was an architect, visual artist, architectural theorist, art collector and intellectual, whose best-known design is probably the Stockmann department store completed in 1930 in the center of Helsinki. - - - (Dimensio, 3.).

He began his artistic career in 1975 with exhibitions in Kuopio and Rovaniemi, earning a gold medal at a national young artists' exhibition the same year. Since then, his work has received wide recognition, including the prestigious Ars Fennica Prize (1997) and the Pro Finlandia Medal (2005). Pohjolainen's art can be found in public spaces both in Finland and abroad. Highlights include "Sauna and Sisu" at the Finnish Embassy in Canberra and "Elämän virta" (The Flow of Life) on the façade of Hesperia Hospital in Helsinki. He is also widely known for his expressive altar works and reliefs, which bring a powerful visual presence to churches such as Rantasalmi and Laajasalo.
