About Douglas Books
I have been selling on abebooks since 2002, after long dealing in a very small way to finance my own book collecting. I specialize primarily in history of science, medicine, psychology & human sciences, philosophy, linguistics, mathematics, economics and, selectively, religion, plus some poetry, politics and general history (including prehistory and archaeology). Regarding antiquarian (pre-1850) works I am less selective. The stock, currently around 6,000 titles, including numerous works in German, French and other European languages. As a former academic historian of psychology, often involved with historians of science and medicine, I have a good working knowledge of these fields and what is likely to be interesting or unusual. Regarding Psychology, I have now listed my library hitherto in the Centre for the History of Psychology at Staffordshire University. I take care to ensure that all books are well packaged individually, usually with internal card re-inforcement and in padded envelopes. I welcome inquiries and can send visual images of works on request. I have now added images to over 50% of my stock (many of course do not lend themselves to this) the quality of these is alas somewhat varied and colour may be slightly inaccurate, sometimes being brighter or lighter than the original (especially a 'red shift' from some shades of brown). Automatically supplied images are still given for some items, but these can be incorrect. I am happy to consider offers of books in my specialist fields for purchase but am extremely selective. Stock is browsable under about 50 separate sub-catalogue headings (some appearing in several different catalogues). Douglas Books (formerly Graham Richards Books) operates from a private address. The quoted postage may be adjusted as appropriate if necessary when an order is processed. Please note that 'Priority' for non-UK destinations in fact refers not to speed of delivery but to rate for 'trackable and signed for'. For UK it means 1st class and trackable should be specially requested before ordering. Royal Mail rates have currently risen significantly for non-UK destinations. This has particularly affected US rates which have been given new top rates of their own: £24 standard and £28 recorded delivery ('signed for' unavailable). Most U.K. books will be sent for £3.50. Non-UK parcels over 2 kg. may be sent by courier or Parcelforce. Note on Catalogues:. The 'Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Psychpathology' catalogue began as a sub-set of that on 'Psychology & Human Sciences' works on sex, gender, crime, demography and sociology remain in the latter. All entries in the pre-1850 catalogues are also now in the relevant subject listings. Also note that the 'Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Psychopathology' listing includes works by eminent figures and their followers which apply their theoretical approaches to other topics(e.g. Freudian literary criticism and many Jung-related works). The Politics and Economics (inc. War) catalogue also includessome Law. Please also note that due to hacking problems I have stopped accepting Paypal, if you wish to pay without using the AAbebooks payment system then I can accept direct bank transfer inc. using IBAN and Swift coes for non-UK customers. I can rarely provide same day postage as I have switched to using Royal Mail on-line which collects the following day. Revised 18th June 2023
