Synopsis
This course book has been written specifically to help trainee primary teachers develop their mathematics subject knowledge. It addresses the subject knowledge requirements for primary mathematics as set out in the Professional Standards for QTS, making clear the links with the pupils' National Curriculum and with the National Numeracy Strategy. Children's misconceptions are used as the focus for each chapter to make clear the subject knowledge needed by trainees to support and extend children's learning. Each chapter ends with self-assessment questions which test that trainees have understood and can demonstrate key mathematical principles.
