[LGBTQ][Transgender][Cross-dressing and Drag] Five original vinyl sound recordings by drag performers and transgender artists, 1957-1977. Two signed and inscribed by performers. This archive spans 50s nightclub entertainment through 70s film counterculture, offering rare audio documentation of drag and female impersonation acts during a period of cultural marginalization and evolving public visibility. Produced and circulated during decades marked by police surveillance, obscenity regulation, and limited mainstream visibility for LGBTQ entertainers, these records preserve audio evidence of performance traditions that flourished in urban cabaret, touring revues, and independent cinema. Each record showcases distinct performance styles, from music to celebrity impersonation, raunchy comedy and queer cinema. Included are: [1] Jacques Dufresnoy dit Coccinelle. 7-Inch Single, 45 RPM. Paris: Président Records, 1957. Featuring the songs "Je cherche un millionnaire" and "Avec mon petit faux-cul." Coccinelle, born Jacques Dufresnoy, achieved international celebrity as a performer at Le Carrousel in Paris beginning in the early 1950s, and later became widely known for her gender-affirming surgery and her work as an advocate for trans visibility. The sleeve notes here describe her as "le plus grand travesti du monde," situating her within a performance tradition while also marking her cultural significance in French popular entertainment. [2] Guilda: Une femme pas comme les autres.? [Guilda: A Woman Like No Other.?]. 12-Inch LP. Montreal: Rusticana, 1961. Signed on the front cover by Guilda ("Pour Madame Parillome eu souvenir de Guilda"). Guilda, born Jean Guida, was a French-Canadian performer whose glamorous persona made her one of the most famous drag artists of the postwar era. Sleeve is illustrated performance photographs, showing Guilda posing in furs and sequins with celebrities such as Josephine Baker. [3] T.C. Jones - T.C. Himself! At the Crescendo on the Sunset Strip. 12-Inch LP. Hollywood: Gene Norman Present, 1961. Live recording of Thomas Craig "T.C." Jones, one of the most celebrated female impersonators of mid-century American theater, performing a series of celebrity impressions at the Crescendo nightclub on Sunset Strip. Jones was known for his razor-sharp transformations into stars like Tallulah Bankhead, Bette Davis, and Katharine Hepburn, several of which are featured on this album. Covers emphasize that this LP presents material "he does not do on television or on the Broadway stage." [4] Liz Lyons - Up Your Ass: Live at the Club Morocco. 12-Inch LP. [United States]: Angelo Productions, 1975. Signed on the front cover by Lyons: "To Arthur, Enjoy me, Liz Lyons." A provocative comedy LP by Liz Lyons, "Queen of the One-Liner," recorded live at the Club Morocco. Bold cover design shows Lyons nude with a plush toy, The back cover offers over-the-top blurbs ("This album could set your woofer on fire") and tongue-in-cheek "warnings" about its risqué content. A rare example of explicit, sex-positive drag comedy committed to vinyl, capturing the bawdy energy of live queer cabaret performance in the 1970s. [5] Outrageous! Original Film Soundtrack. 12-Inch LP. New York: Polydor, 1977. Soundtrack LP for the Canadian cult film Outrageous!, starring Craig Russell, whose drag performances formed the core of the narrative. Features original score by Paul Hoffert and vocal performances by Cecile Frenette and Brenda Hoffert. Side B contains a series of Russell's impersonations of female stars, including Judy Garland, Mae West, Carol Channing, and others. Russell's celebrity impressions, layered with queer satire, made Outrageous! a landmark in LGBTQ+ cinema. Together these scarce records exemplify the glamour, humor, and raw talent of iconic gender bending performers from trans icon Coccinelle to drag superstar T.C. Jones. Covers show light wear and creasing but retain strong colors. Vinyl untested. Overall very good condition. Scarce.
